II’m a little bit addicted to turmeric and a whole lot addicted to Kombucha, so I got to thinking I should experiment and make a turmeric tea base, add a SCOBY to it, leave it brew and see what happened. And guess what? Wahooo, the brew is wicked!
1 heaped tablespoon of ground turmeric, 160gm sugar and 2 litres of water 1 SCOBY and about 1 cup of Kombucha
Boil water, add turmeric and sugar simmer for at least 10 minutes and allow to cool before pouring tea into tank and adding SCOBY.
Instructions for making my first ferment Kombucha can be found here
This brew has got about 5 old SCOBYs added to it, but it still took 14+ days for it to reach a decent stage of fermentation. I’m not a sweet tooth, so the final result wasn’t to my liking, however I gave a bottle to my yoga teacher, Anne Gacquerelle-Campion and another to Marg Lambert who both said they loved it!
I’ve got another turmeric brew down at the moment, however I’ve used a different recipe so it will be fun to compare both of these brews. Feel free to share any ideas you’ve got or recommendations based on your own experiments won’t you?
